This course focuses on the bloodiest of William Shakespeare's tragedies, including Titus Andronicus, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Coriolanus. We will attend to Shakespeare's structure and language, discuss the conventions of the genre, and examine the plays in the context of the social, political, and religious tensions of the Renaissance.
