Changes to Existing Majors

The major in Organizational Communication has been sunsetted for the Class of 2029 and after. Students already declared will be grandfathered and completed. A new major in Communications, a collaboration between the English Department and Grenon School, is in the pipeline. A minor in Organizational Communication is new and available starting this year.

The Accounting major has been revised in the wake of program review, to better address the professional preparation in a wider variety of software, strengthened skill in analytics, and practica. The new requirements apply to the Classes of 2029 and 2028. The overall size of the major has not changed. What’s new? The introductory courses have changed names to better reflect equivalent attention to the two kinds of accounting: ACC 125 is now Financial Accounting and ACC 126 is now Managerial Accounting. This is still a sequence, with 125 a pre-requisite to 126. Health and Human Services has a new concentration in Individual, Community, and Systems Advocacy. The Individual, Community, and Systems Advocacy Concentration is a dynamic, multidisciplinary program designed for students passionate about driving social change through advocacy. Integrating a liberal arts perspective with the option for professional credentialing, the curriculum not only provides theoretical knowledge and sociopolitical context about the systemic factors and dynamics that impact individuals, communities and institutions, but it also places a strong emphasis on the development of practical skills and critical thinking essential for effective advocacy. By fostering a deep understanding of the interconnectedness between various levels of advocacy, the concentration prepares students to effectively impact individual lives, shape community initiatives, and influence systemic change. With a concentration in Individuals, Community, and Systems Advocacy, students are equipped to become future leaders committed to promoting equity and justice in complex societal landscapes.

All three Marketing majors have changed. Marketing, Marketing with a Concentration in Digital Marketing, and Marketing with a Concentration in Sales no longer require MKT 250 Marketing Research. As the names suggest, MKT 270 focuses on qualitative methods like interviews and focus groups, while MKT 260 focuses on quantitative techniques like surveys and digital A/B testing. Students with a concentration in Digital Marketing should be encouraged to choose MKT 260 Quantitative Marketing Research. All other Marketing majors should choose based on interest or scheduling preferences.
