A student completes a minor in Spanish by taking a total of six courses at level 101 or higher and completing it with courses acceptable for the Spanish major. Students begin the minor at their placement level. Students who place at SPA 202 or higher must take at least one course from SPA 300-399. LAS 200: Introduction to Latin American Studies or LAS 210 Routes and Roots: Latin American Migration may be taken so long as students complete at least 60% of the assignments in Spanish and start the minor at SPA 102 or higher. The student should consult with a departmental advisor when planning their courses.
Foundations Program and the Spanish minor: Students who are considering a minor in Spanish are advised to fulfill the Foundations Program Cornerstone literature requirement by taking SPA 204 instead of ENG 140. A Spanish course will fulfill the language or culture requirement in the Language, Culture, and Expression Pillar. LAS 200 fulfills the foundations Forum requirement.
